(CCPlays) 1984 Soviet Campaign | Part 42: Final Hunt | Cold Waters DotMOD
Previously, in the 1984 Soviet Campaign of Cold Waters... We hunted down an Algol, one of the superfast NATO transports, so fast, it doesn't have escorts because they can't keep up.

Welcome to Captain Chang Plays (CCP) Cold Waters. We are playing the 1984 Soviet Campaign at reduced difficulty.

09-JAN-1985 North Atlantic, on a shipping lane
We're waiting for the sub allegedly transiting from the US that will attack us. However, it probably had already passed us.
11-JAN-1985 Near Hofn, Iceland
We were transiting through the GIUK gap when we got the news that it had indeed gotten by us. On the other hand, our forces have taken Hofn, thus severing half of the GIUK SOSUS line.
Our new orders are to take 8 Granat cruise missiles and strike Rejavik / Keflavik facilities. Unfortunately, we have none onboard, so we have to go back to Murmansk to get some.
13-JAN-1985 Murmansk, USSR
We loaded 8 Granat cruise missiles onboard, 6 x decoys, 4 x Vovopads, 8 x 65-76 ASuW torpedoes, 6 x TEST-71M wire-guided torpedoes, and 8 x USET-80 advanced dual-purpose torpedoes.
14-JAN-1985 Reyjavik / Keflavik, Iceland
We arrived and proceed to slowly enter the area. There are 3 visible escorts, but we waited, and soon, we identified a NATO sub hiding in the corner. The towed array was very helpful in that regard.
We started with a torpedo salvo that was composed of a 65-76 and 2 USET-80s, and luckily, 2 of the 3 escorts were sunk. However, they did return fire and we had to dodge quite a few torpedoes in very shallow waters. We sank the final escort and used a Vodopad to rid ourselves of the Skipjack submarine.
We then fired off 4 Granat at the port facilities as directed, while getting ready to blast the helo should he come to play.
We reloaded the tubes with 4 more Granat cruise missiles and got those off as well.
And indeed, the helo came to play. I was at periscope depth, and it had previously dropped torpedoes on my decoy, so it has no torpedoes left. I poked my conning tower out of the water, and my crew fed it an Igla MANPAD, shooting it down.
The Orion wisely retreated out of the area, and we disengaged.
And here we are at our most important job... the final mission... An Ohio-class Ballistic missile sub is being scrambled out of Holy Loch to face down our Typhoon class already deployed to the boomer bastion. We are to sink the Ohio-class boomer.
15-JAN-1985 Just outside Holy Loch, UK
We are in place, but we have no idea if we are too late or not.
We engaged a sub, but that turned out to be a Sturgeon class, which died from a TEST-71M.
We encountered another Sturgeon who tried to hide under a merchant, but we dropped a Vodopad on him anyway, and it sank.
16-JAN-1985 Just outside Holy Loch
We got a "Goodbye" message from HQ, telling me that they have received intel that the boomer had made it out of the area, and I had failed. The rest is up to the politicians.
And somehow, sanity prevailed. There will be no nuclear war. In fact, an armistice has been agreed to. The war is over.
Final record:
193 days at war
32 missions accomplished
5 capital ships sunk
60 escorts sunk
22 submarines sunk
42 merchants (all military transports) sunk
NO civilians were harmed, no accidental/collateral damage.
Total sunk: 129 vessels
Total tonnage: 1.2 million tons
Total medal count: 13
