Previously, I had 1 D5D, and 2 D7Ds. In order to capture the target, as demanded by this mission, I am trading this in for a new set of ships: A D7W (command), a D7K (cruiser), and a D5L (light cruiser).
The mission: We Are the Dead
Previously we've dealt with the problem in Ikyriaa, where the long dead Ikyrian race still has psychic power for revenge, and somehow the absence of Organians allowed them to run wild. We also believe Dr. Kraa, a renegade scientist of psionic powers, and an speaker against our heritage of glorious conquest, is involved. We found that he had traveled via wormhole to [X]. Go there, and capture him, and deal with anyone else in the system. He must be captured, as we must put him on trial.
NOTE: The reason for the fleet swap is actually quite simple: my previous squadron has too much "peak output", in that it just overwhelms the enemy ship. Very good if you're trying to kill enemies dead, horrible when your job is to CAPTURE the enemy ship. Even when you set the orders to "capture", your ships just do too much damage per turn, and the ship is blown up before your capture is complete.
Anyway, the D7s have 4-5 transporters each, excellent for captures and raids.
As we entered the system, we noticed a bunch of ships: 2 Federation frigates and 1 light cruiser, 2 Klingon frigates and 1 light cruiser, 1 Hydran destroyer, and one Gorn heavy cruiser. Unfortunately, we have no idea which one Kraa may be on. I charged Deep Scan and went toward the nearest ship, as we must scan each one within 30 kellicams. My companions engaged the ships as they come closer, while I waited for the science officer to give the verdict. One by one, we eliminated the ships, until only two remained: the Hydran ship that's on the other side of the planet, and the Gorn ship.
We got in range of the Gorn ship, and it launched multiple plasma torpedoes at us, but we took them on different shields, suffering minimal internal damage. The Science officer affirmed that Kraa is onboard the Gorn ship. We surrounded him, and he had already fired his torpedoes, so he needs time to recharge. We dropped his shields, added some phaser damage, and we started beaming in marines. It was a glorious battle, as the Gorns excel in hand-to-hand combat, being heavyset saurians, and they had 20 marine squads defending the ship, but that's why I had 3 ships, all of them full of marines, and the ending was never in doubt. After a while, the ship is ours. And it seems Hydran ship is now rushing this way.
We surged to engage the Hydran ship, and we have enough damage control repairs that our damage from the plasma torpedoes earlier did not degrade our combat effectiveness. We took care of Hydran ship and his fighters. Then we headed toward the exit wormhole. By this time the Gorn ship has regained some mobility under our prize crew, and I lead the way back to home space.
Upon arrival, the mood was subdued. Something had happened while I was gone. While the Kraa situation was dealt with, it appears it was not yet time to celebrate, for the enemy had struck a serious blow...
