Welcome to Captain Chang Plays (CCP) Cold Waters. We are playing the 1984 NATO campaign with the older Permit-class USS Gato SSN-615, commissioned in 1968.

21-DEC-84 Norwegian Sea
MISSION: Stop cruise missile sub and its escort(s).
We moved east to anticipate a subsurface contact.
22-DEC-84 Norwegian Sea
Interception of the subsurface contact complete.
As sensors initialized, we located 3 merchants on the surface... and two separate underwater contacts. Initially they both looked like Charlie IIs, but later we identified the other as a Victor II.
I debated whether I can hide from them on the surface which is supposedly protected by a strong thermal layer, but in the end, decided to seek deep waters instead.
As they came within 10km, we were on the threshold of being discovered on passive sonar. I decided to shoot first, by sending them my final MOSS decoy, then two torpedoes, except one suffered a broken wire, so I ended up firing three torpedoes.
They finally reacted when the torpedo had traveled about 4 km, and Charlie II gave me an active ping, then fired a spread of 3 torpedoes at me. But I had anticipated that, and the decoy lured the center torpedo back toward them, so I just need to hide in the center corridor. And Charlie II died. The other torpedo was then steered into the mess looking for the Victor III, and he was found directly north. He panicked fired three torpedoes as well, but directly south, as my torpedo came from that way, which was nowhere near me. My torpedo met him after bypassing a few noisemakers. He went to the bottom.
After reporting to COMSUBLANT we received the attaboy we'd been expecting. As we are down to 4 torpedoes and no decoys, we have been ordered back to Holy Loch for reload and a couple hours rest.
According to COMSUBLANT, we had killed 19 subs so far.
