Welcome back for yet another CDP featuring a newly revealed theme. This time, we're featuring the ABC Union archetype, newly empowered by the XYZ retrains in the LIGHT Duelist Pack. If you've never heard of this archetype before, the LIGHT Union strategy revolves around Union Hangar, a Field Spell that first tutors a LIGHT Machine Union, then equips a LIGHT Machine Union from your deck to one that you summon. Where this typically leads is mega combos, as if you equip Union Driver, you'll quickly be able to banish him to equip a different LIGHT Machine Union instead, opening up combo chains for days. Even before the new support, A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern all were able to loop rather effectively, since none has a hard once-per-turn effect, and the new ones are just the same!
Without further ado, let's begin on the new cards! X-Cross Cannon is up first, and this is the new optimal starter for the theme. Not only does it equip its own LIGHT Machine Union from your deck, but it also can Special Summon itself from the hand while you control a LIGHT Machine Fusion or Union monster. As for the new Unions, Y-Dragon Yearhead gets to equip any Level 4 LIGHT Machine from your hand/GY when Special Summoned, while Z-Zillion Tank gets to equip any from your banishment when Special Summoned. These two are where the new combos can go crazy, since a chain of Yearheads gives you free material to play with. On the Spell front, the theme also got a great card in Union Activation, which mills a LIGHT Machine Normal or Union monster before tutoring a LIGHT Machine with the same ATK. So if you send X-Head Cannon, you can tutor X-Cross Cannon. It also carries a really fun GY effect, which when you Special Summon 3 LIGHT Machines at the same time, it can be banished to tutor a monster with 3000+ ATK then immediately Normal Summon it! This works well with a variety of options (see my Side Deck), but I elected to go with Cracking Dragon since it is a second Small World target to turn any of your Unions into X-Cross Cannon.
Now let's talk about the Extra Deck, since these Fusions are the heart and soul of this deck. Union Controller is up first, a Level 6 Fusion that tutors any S/T that mentions 'Union Monster', such as Hangar or Activation. It also serves as a second copy of Platinum Gadget, Special Summoning any LIGHT Machine Normal or Union from the hand. For the boss monsters, you still have ABC-Dragon Buster, but you've also gained XYZ-Hyper Dragon Cannon. This Level 9 Fusion is Special Summoned by banishing its materials from your field and/or GY, and it can discard to destroy a card your opponent controls. It also carries a second effect, which can be used to recover materials for ABC-Dragon Buster or XYZ-Dragon Cannon, the latter of which is used to make the ULTIMATE Fusion monster: A-to-Z-Dragon Buster Cannon. If your opponent activates something? Just discard and negate it! This LIGHT Union deck has been supercharged by the new support - are you ready for it?
