Welcome to today's Creative Deck Profile, this time taking the new Chimera support cards for a spin alongside the Illusion monsters! If you missed the history behind the new Illusion type, be sure to read all about it here: https://ygorganization.com/lookintomyevileyes/ . Much like Yugi's original strategy, the Chimera theme is all about Fusion Summoning, initially into Chimera the Phantom Beast King, and then ultimately into Chimera the Illusion Magical Beast. The first Fusion Monster gives you the benfit of discarding a random card from the opponent's hand during the End Phase, as well as an effect to banish itself from the GY to Special Summon a different Beast, Fiend, or Illusion monster from your GY, while the second gives you a boss monster that can repeatedly attack over an opponents monster for high battle damage. Supporting these two are retrains of Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast's Fusion Materials, Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts and Berfomet. Now, there are two new versions, Berfomet the Great Wings, which tutors any Level 4 Beast as well as Chimera Fusion, and Gazelle the King of Mythical Claws, which tutors any Level 5 Fiend or a Chimera Fusion. Both also have an effect when sent to the GY as material for a Fusion Summon, recovering or tutoring an Illusion monster respectively. Right now, the two Illusion monsters that play a role are Mirror Swordsman and Cornfield Koator, both of which support monsters that mention Chimera Fusion, but I'm sure we'll see more worthwhile Illusion monsters in future sets!
Now all of those cards sound well and good, but why run them with Branded? One answer, Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon. This Winged Beast Fusion monster is Fusion Summoned via any Beast plus Fallen of Albaz, so if you happen to use Branded Fusion and send your Gazelle the King of Mythical Claws, you're primed to jump into your full Chimera combos. Even if you don't have a way to an initial Branded Fusion, you have plenty of opportunities to Fusion Summon through alternative means, such as with Polymerization, which is supported here by a full Frightfur Patchwork engine, as well as Dragon's Mirror and Branded in White. This versatility in Fusion options lends itself well to diving into other monsters, such as Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon, Starving Venom Predapower Fusion Dragon, Guardian Chimera, Magnum the Reliever, or even Predaplant Dragostapelia. All of the Fusion monsters come out to play here, and this deck thrives with it. Embrace the power of Fusion themes working together, now fueled by the new Illusion type!
