Welcome to today's CDP, this time throwing a few different archetypes and themes together, but is that really new for my profiles? Today, I'm going to start with the Fossil and Sphinx archetypes, two Rock themes that play together quite nicely. The Fossil theme revolves around resolving Fossil Fusion, a Fusion Spell that uses monsters in either GY to bring out Fossil Fusion monsters. The boss of the theme is Fossil Dragon Skullgios, able to deal double battle damage, piercing, and can switch the ATK/DEF of a monster it battles, but the real stars of this theme are the two maindeck monsters. First up, we have Weathering Soldier, who tutors Fossil Fusion or a card that mentions it when sent to the GY by card effect. Second, we have Shell Knight, who tutors any Level 8 Rock monster when sent to the GY by card effect, or Special Summons it instead of Fossil Fusion is in your GY. Each in isolation doesn't sound like much, but they are the solid consistency of this theme, with the first tutoring what you need and the second getting you to your big Rock monsters. What big Rocks am I talking about? Well, Pharaonic Guardian Sphinx is one of them, able to shuffle all monsters your opponent controls into the deck when Flip Summoned. The other is Exxod, Master of the Guard, who will inflict 1000 to the opponent each time one of your EARTH monsters is Flip Summoned! Lastly, we have Gaia Plate the Earth Giant, just a solid beatstick that's easily Special Summoned.
Now you may be asking yourself - How do we send the two Fossil monsters to the GY? That was what I asked until I turned to the Sangen theme, specifically to their Field Spell. You see, each turn, Brimming Sangen Manor can tutor any Tenpai Dragon monster, then discard a card. The discard is largely wasted in pure Sangen decks, but here, we get to leverage that discard while also advancing the Sangen win condition. Besides its field, this theme of FIRE Dragons can constantly Synchro Summon during the Battle Phase, laddering up to Trident Dragon and Sangen Superdragon Trascend Dragion while your opponent barely has a chance to react. In today's deck, it serves as a failsafe, as most opponents will struggle to overcome your onslaught of dragons, buying you enough stalled time to turn to the Sphinx side of the deck to close it out and find victory.
Speaking of the Sphinx, I want to point to one last characteristic of the theme, and that is their ability to flip themselves face-down once per turn. Of course this sets up their effects when Flip Summoned extremely well, but it also happens to be the inspiration for this entire build, since it triggers Sunset Beat, a new Continuous Spell TCG World Premiere card from PHNI. Whenever a face-up monster is flipped face-down while Beat is on the field, it lets you destroy a card. Sure, this doesn't sound like much, but you can also combine this with Time Rewinder, which Special Summons itself from the hand whenever a monster is flipped face-up during the Main Phase. When it does, it lets you change a face-up monster face-down. Plus, Rewinder pretty much serves as another Sphinx monster, as when flipped face-up during the Main Phase, it Special Summons a monster from your GY before flipping a monster on the field face-down, such as itself! Enjoy all the flipping tactics of the Sphinx, bolstered by the Fossil and Sangen themes!
