Welcome back for another CDP, and today we're being inspired by the new September TCG F/L list and the new Performage cards! The Performage archetype has developed into a fully fledged Pendulum theme, offering Level 4 and 5 Spellcasters of various attributes that have a few Xyz bosses and one supporting Fusion monster. Let's dive right in with Performage Fire Dancer, a new Level 4 FIRE that when summoned, tutors any other Performage monster. The best option is typically Performage Water Dancer, as it can Special Summon itself from your Pendulum Zone when you control a Performage Monster. With 2 Pendulums, that gives you access to Beyond the Pendulum for the core combo, letting you grab whatever you need to set both scales for a Pendulum Summon. As far as the other noteworthy Performage monsters, Performage Wind Drainer can be Special Summoned from the hand if your opponent controls a monster or if a Performage is on the field, and when it does, it can be reduced to Level 4. Additionally, it can make all of your Level 4 Performage Monsters Level 5, unlocking access to this theme's unique new boss, Performage Shadow Maker.
Shadow Maker is a R5NK Xyz Monster requiring 3 materials, and it is special because it can Special Summon other copies of itself from the Extra Deck whenever any card or effect is activated that targets it. It also can detach a material to send a Performage from your Deck to the GY and tutor a Rank-Up-Magic Spell. Of course this synergizes with the old Performage monsters, Performage Trick Clown and Performage Damage Juggler, but it also gives you what you need to bring out the theme's big boss: Performage Trapeze High Magician. This R5NK Xyz is intended to be summoned using Rank-Up-Magic Magical Force on a Performage Trapeze Magician in your Xyz, and it can make up to 3 attacks on opponents' monsters while also protecting itself from destruction and you from effect damage. But this is where my take on Performage starts to deviate from most others I've seen online: I don't like simply tutoring Magical Force with Shadow Maker. Instead, I've turned to another theme that uses Rank-Up-Magics, the Raidraptors!
As a brief summary to this theme, the Raidraptor archetype consists of DARK Winged Beast monsters that aim to Xyz Summon. While many of their cards reiquire or lock you into Xyz monsters or Winged Beasts, I'm specifically using an engine that doesn't need specific materials. Starting with any 2 Level 4 monsters, I can make Raidraptor - Force Strix, tutor a copy of Raidraptor - Singing Lanius, then just wait until Shadow Maker does its thing, tutoring Rank-Up-Magic Raid Force. From there, Force can be Ranked-Up into Raidraptor - Brave Strix, giving me another negation for the endboard in Raidraptor - Glorious Bright. I also like this combo because it provides access to Raider's Wing, giving you yet another re-summonable Level 4 material in addition to another way to detach that pesky last material from your Shadow Maker! Don't let your Wavering Eyes pass over the Performage cards - they certainly can offer a ton of fun!
