In this episode, we begin playing through Chapter 8 of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Despair and Hope. We kick off the episode just after Greil has been killed by the Black Knight. Ike, Mist, and the rest of the mercenaries are in mourning. In the old fort they’ve taken up as their base, they find a merchant caravan that has also taken refuge in the fort. This gives us access to the new “Base” mechanic. The base is available before every chapter, and it allows you to manage your items, deal out bonus experience, manage skills, read support conversations, and view optional info conversations. In one of the info conversations, we hear about a girl named Ilyana who travels with the merchants but has gone missing. After doing everything there is to do in the base, the episode ends and we can move on.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (Fire Emblem 9/FE9) is a tactical RPG developed by Intelligent Systems (a division of Nintendo) for the Nintendo GameCube in 2005. It is the ninth entry in the Fire Emblem series, a beloved Tactical RPG series known for its engaging gameplay, interesting characters, and support conversations. Path of Radiance tells the story of Ike, a young Mercenary who lives in the Kingdom of Crimea. When the neighboring nation of Daein invades Crimea, Ike and his mercenary company are forced to evacuate Crimea. When they encounter the lost princess of Crimea, Elincia, their lives change forever. What ensues is a journey of reclaiming their homeland, and confronting a deadly evil. Common themes in the game are racism, the circumstances of one’s birth, and the consequences of war. Path of Radiance is one of the most sought after and expensive GameCube games, and so not many Fire Emblem fans have been able to experience it. So I want to share the game with the world!
