CES 2022 Feel the Virtual reality | Force feedback
6At this years CES there was a lot of great technology and One of the coolest demos I had a chance to try was the SenseGlove Nova.
These are wireless haptic force feedback gloves that works with PC VR and standalone headsets like Quest 2, Pico neo, Vive focus.
Demo that I tried was a robot assembly in which I was tasked with attaching various parts to robots body and using power tools to tighten down the bolts.
At the beginning of experience gloves have to calibrated. The process was quick and straight forward, after a few hand gestures like making a fist and showing thimbs up the calibration was completed and finger tracking was good to go.
SenseGloves allow you to feel shape and density of virtual object
Even little things like crushing a soda can felt incredibly real.
Demo kept surprising me with how real objects felt, even a sponge had a soft squishy feel. But the highlight of the demo was a drill, as I picked it up i could feel it's shape and to my surprise the vibrotactile feedback felt so real. I felt the vibration from the drill in my index finger and thumb. The voice coil actuator inside the main body gave a sense of an actual drill vibration.
As amazin as this experience was it does not come cheap, a pair of SenseGloves Nova will set you back $5000. As this product is made for industrial use and trainings there are no games that would support it.
But as we all know todays business technology will be tomorrows consumer product. As with all things hardware the price improves as technology matures and quantities increase. Currently SenseGloves have no plans on entering the consumer market but the CEO has made a coment that as they scale production the product might hit a a price point that consumers would be more comfortable with.
