Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Gegege no Kitarou: Youkai Souzoushu Arawaru! for Game Boy developed by Act Japan and published by Bandai.

Gegege no Kitarou: Youkai Souzoushu Arawaru! looks, feels, and plays a lot like Pokemon, only with the story and characters of a classic manga based on centuries-old Japanese folklore. This was one of the first game concepts to get swept up in Game Freak's whirlwind 1996 aftermath, though Gegege no Kitarou manages to retain its story's direction... just with the addition of monster-collecting, training, and robotic sandals. (But those were there before.)
