LESSON 7 KEY TERMS:
CHAIN: A chain is a series of effects which has been activated in response to each other, or at the same time. Activating a card or effect in response to another card or effect is called chaining.
CHAIN LINK: The number given to the different effects on a chain. The first effect activated is chain link one, and subsequent effects count upwards from there.
RESOLVE: To resolve a chain means to figure out the end result of all the effects. When resolving a chain the players start at the highest number chain link and move backwards until they get to one, applying each effect in turn. Once a chain starts resolving new effects may not be activated until the chain is done resolving.
COST: Something the player must do in order to activate a card. Costs are denoted in newer cards are separated from effects by the use of a semicolon. Costs are payed when a card is activated and happen regardless of if the effect of the card is negated.
SPELL SPEED: Every effect is assigned a spell speed of either one, two, or three. Effects of any spell speed may only be chained to other effects of their spell speed or lower.
