This talk, moderated by Leah Fredman, poses a series of questions for the panelists, Matt White, Rudi Bonaparte, and Nicolaas VanMeerten, as they discuss common challenges in the game analytics pipeline.

Matt White, Player Research

Previously at Volition, Playstation, and Penn State, Dr. Matthew White is a usability and analytics consultant doing data science for Player Research. His previous work includes titles such as Agents of Mayhem, MLB the Show, Starblood Arena, and many others. He also works on indie games in his spare time and has written a book or two about the games industry.

Rudi Bonaparte, Riot

Rudi Bonaparte co-leads Riot's Insights team, executing strategic projects with Riot's senior leadership while supporting and mentoring analysts, researchers, and strategists across the company. Through his efforts and those of his team, Riot is able to better understand gamers and markets, and consistently put player experience first. Before joining Riot, Rudi built analytic teams and advised executives from a variety of companies, starting as a management consultant specializing in strategy for tech, telecom, and digital media firms. Later, he moved to Teach for America where he built their analytics and research organization, driving recruitment and fundraising operations. Rudi has a bachelor’s degree from Harvard and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Nic VanMeerten, GLITCH

Nicolaas VanMeerten is the Senior Programs Director and Co-Founder at GLITCH. He is a fourth year Ph.D. student in the Educational Psychology program at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Nic is a data scientist by trade and his research focuses on studying how to enhance and assess learning in video game environments.
