Chaos Field is a boss-run type of shooter that I believe was originally released for the Dreamcast and then later ported and "Expanded" for the GameCube and PS2, though the GC version is the only version that was released in the U.S. It was later released with other games in the Ultimate (Milestone) Shooting Collection for Wii. It's a relatively short game that I honestly don't find remarkable, though that doesn't mean that it's not enjoyable.

The game has mostly standard shooter mechanics. You can choose one of three characters with a tiny shred of backstory and an aircraft suited to their abilities. If you've played just about any shooter with multiple pilots in your life, then you know what to expect; You have your balanced craft piloted by the 15 year old Hal (Mixed Blue), the weak but agile craft piloted by 19 year old Ifumi (Flawed Red), and the slow but powerful craft piloted by the mysterious Jinn (Fake Yellow). There are no power-ups, just preset abilities based on your craft. All crafts have blades and can Lock-On for combos. They also have the ability to use switch fields between "Order Field" and "Chaos Field".

The Order Field helps you gain Metastock by giving more items (needed for Lock-Ons and Special abilities) while the Chaos Field improves your power but makes enemies much harder and stock items more scarce. I honestly didn't notice much of a difference in power with Ifumi in the Chaos Field, but I use it anyway because it's cool. This video shows some of the game and the various abilities that can be done.
