ChatGPT prevented these college seniors from getting their diplomas! A professor from Texas A&M decided to give his students 0s on their assignments - because ChatGPT falsely took credit for their essays. Right, a Reddit user - reportedly the partner of one of the affected students - interviewed with Rolling Stone and shared the email. Which said that the professor copied the last 3 essay assignments into ChatGPT twice and if it took credit for the essay both times, the students received a 0. Causing the university to hold the diplomas for many seniors in the class. But, the problem with that, is that’s not how ChatGPT works. The AI is reportedly very quick to take credit for anything you ask - with Rolling Stone saying it took credit for writing Crime and Punishment. And when students responded with timecodes on Google docs - showing their work and proving they didn’t use AI - they professor responded with, “I don’t grade AI [redacted].” For now, the university is investigating the incident and the diplomas will remain on hold. But we’ll keep an eye out for any updates.
