Chatham's Naval Memorial Medway's Great Lines Heritage Park in Chatham Kent UK England War Memorial
2Chatham's naval history is well documented and the original lines were originally Medway's defence during the Napoleonic Wars of 1803 although Fort Amhers,t the orginal site of the lines had been in operation since 1756. It had been deemed a necessary defence after the Dutch raid of 1667, when they were able to sail up the River Medway unimpeded.
Chatham's Naval Memorial is situated within Medway's Great Lines Heritage Park in Chatham Kent.
The memorial is dedicated to Royal Navy men and women whose lives were lost at sea over two world wars. The obelisk in the centre was the original monument, and was unveiled in 1924 after the First World War. Built of Portland Stone, it is one of 3 memorials, the others being at Portsmouth and Plymouth. This original monument contained 8500 names of lives lost during the naval conflicts of the first world war.
After the second world war an expansive surround was designed by Sir Edward Maufe, and was unveiled in 1952 by the Duke of Edinburgh. This expansion contained a further 10,098 names.
There are 4 impressive statues of sailors, around the later expansion, also made of Portland stone.
Chatham's naval memorial is the only one built on a hill, making it visible from afar and well worth a visit to appreciate the beauty of the architecture and the sacrifices made by our ancestors.

My pal & I got these Mountain EBike's May 2022, as we are over the hill and wanted to get back into Cycling we thought this would be a good option for our fitness level :)
I used to do a lot of road cycling when I was younger around County Durham & North Yorkshire + Central London.
My Pal is mostly a MTB and Motorbike rider, he likes the trails jumps and getting muddy.
I tend to just follow as I never know where im going, but also he never knows where hes going either :)
