Checking Out OPERATION SERPENS In The Oculus Quest 2
Today I am taking a look at the first game I have decided to side load to my Oculus Quest 2 and that is OPERATION SERPENS. As a child of the 80's and 90's who grew up frequenting the arcades I was always fascinated by the light gun games, Flash forward many years and now we are seeing a resurgence of these types of shooters but in virtual reality.
Now admittedly, I am not a fan of most of these wave shooters that have come out over the years in VR and feel that there are just too many of them clogging up the market place currently, but I have to say I did enjoy playing OPERATION SERPENS. I think I enjoyed this one a bit more because most of the other wave shooters that have come out over the years try to disguise themselves as a being something more, but OPERATION SERPENS doesn't go there... It stays true to the fact that it is a straight shoot-em-up game with old school arcade overtones.
Now with that in mind I will say that the game can get repetitive at times like most other wave shooters and has very little in the way of a skill level requirement to play... I found OPERATION SERPENS to be very easy and desperately in need of some options for the player including something that would let me increase the difficulty levels. As you can see in this video there were many times I just stood there and even though there was a barrage of bullets heading towards me I never got hit? Speaking of options, I also found no movement options in this game? There is snap rotation but no way to locomote with the character? Admittedly if you have a large enough play space this game would be better suited to play in room scale so you can actually duck and cover but for those without that luxury, it would be nice for the Devs to have added a movement system.
So overall if you are looking for a fun little wave based shooter to kill some time with and relive a bit of the old arcade days nostalgia, then OPERATION SERPENS might just be what you are wanting.
