Chernobylite is a Survival Horror game developed by The Farm 51 set in the infamous Chernobyl Exclusion Zone which is the venue of a widely known nuclear accident. The story starts thirty years after the incident wherein you will be playing as Igor Khymynuk, a Ukrainian physicist who returns to Chernobyl in search of his missing fiancé Tatyana, who disappeared shortly after the nuclear disaster. Standing in his way is a military contractor called NAR who leased the whole zone to scavenge a strange material called “Chernobylite” for unknown experiments; the extradimensional creatures called the Shadows whose presence came around the same time the Chernobylite was found; and the mysterious Black Stalker who endeavors to remove any intruders by any means necessary. In his journey in the Zone, Igor may be accompanied by various individuals who each have personal reasons of their own in helping him in searching for his fiancé and uncovering conspiracies behind her disappearance.

This game received favorable review scores in PC (75) and Xbox One (82) while having mixed reception in PS4 (60). Praise were given to its freedom in exploring the various areas of the Zone, the crafting and building in the central hub, the consequences of each decisions in the game and the interesting science fiction plot. However, criticisms were made on its repetitive gameplay, the small diversity of its enemies, the short missions, the lack of horror elements, and how some of its unique mechanic was a miss in the game.

As for me, I really like this game. I love its building/crafting mechanics, its interesting cast of characters and plot, and the various consequences of each of your decisions in-game. However, there are also things which I found issues and lacking in the game. First is its bugs which are many that could halt your progress (can still be solved through a reload though) and some annoying like game crashes. Next is its repetitive gameplay which is usually you going to areas mainly to find resources while trying to do the main/side mission. I also found the “stalker” mechanic to be a miss which gives you a time before the arrival of the “Black Stalker” to hunt you in missions. Not only is this annoying, but also rushes you either to finish the mission or face him at the cost of your resources. As for the lack thereof, for a game which was promoted to be a horror experience, nothing in the game made me scared. Although the game has jumpscares, it is few and would be easily forgotten since you will only be focusing too much on getting resources. Still, it is an enjoyable, fun and unique experience to play this game. Enjoy the walkthrough!!!
