Chex Quest 1's first built-in demo played back in DOOM.EXE
2You may be familiar with the fact that they didn't record any new demos for Chex Quest 2 leading to the first demo being de-synced. But did you know the first demo is actually desynced even in Chex Quest 1? It appears the demo's actually meant to be played when using Chex Quest 1 as a PWAD for the Ultimate Doom, as shown here.
This suggests that Digital Cafe developed the levels before Chex Quest's custom executable was ready. In fact, the fact that you don't get a Large Zorcher until E1M3 suggests that it may have been intended to be received earlier via the Bipedicus dropping it, but they forgot to account for the fact that it would no longer do that with the customized executable.
Fun fact: In Chex Quest 3: Vanilla Edition, for the first built-in demo I actually reenacted the original first demo in its properly synced form, which gives an idea of what the demo might look like if it was properly re-recorded for the new executable.
