Chiefs grades for their 40-26 win over the Jaguars in Week 1 of the 2019 NFL season covers all three phases of the game. The offense is the primary focus as reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes came out firing with 378 yards and 3 touchdowns in the victory. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins was even more impressive as he exploded for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win. Is this the year Watkins truly breaks out? NFL Daily host Harrison Graham hands out grades for the Chiefs against the Jaguars!
Tyreek Hill left the game in the first quarter with a clavicle injury. How long will he be out? Will the Chiefs place him on IR? Harrison has the latest there. Damien Williams and LeSean McCoy both saw meaningful time against the Jaguars. McCoy was more efficient as a runner. Will he unseat Williams as the starter? Travis Kelce could’ve had two touchdowns, but Mahomes overthrew him once & Kelce barely landed out of bounds on another opportunity.
The Chiefs defense did not play that well as rookie QB Gardner Minshew came in for the injured Nick Foles and shined. Minshew completed 22 of 25 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns. Frank Clark did play well as he intercepted Minshew and batted another ball down. He grades out much better than the rest of the defense, especially the cornerbacks who really struggled.
