Since ancient times in China til now, why has authoritarianism comparatively been a predominant feature throughout history.
Geographic determinism is often used a way of explaining the nuance of a civilizations culture. In the case of China, how much of its development has been the result of unchanging geographic qualities? In this video, I explain how China's isolation from the rest of the world led to the view that China was at the center of the world, a notion that has not significantly changed for the ruling elite. Despite what we are being force fed in the west about notions nationalism, it's not wrong for a a country to think of itself as being number one - in fact a sense of exceptionalism is a key trait for the survival of your society. However one questions weather China sense of ethnocentrism is too much. Why do few Chinese people have a problem with the despotic notions of their society or their ruling government? Furthermore, who are the people who DO have a problem with centralized authority and what do they have in common with more freedom oriented westerners?
