China, which has made a big leap forward in space-related projects in recent years and made a difference to its western rivals, has built an "artificial Moon" that can imitate the gravity of the Earth's satellite after the artificial Sun. With the simulator, which is based on the work of Nobel Prize-winning Russian Physicist Andra Geim, tests that astronomers could not perform before can now be performed. On the other hand, China aims to establish a base on the Moon together with Russia by 2030. Thanks to the Artificial Moon, taikonauts and cosmonauts will gain experience and experience how to build on the Moon.

Chinese scientists have built an "artificial Moon" with a gravity similar to Earth's satellite to help prepare taikonauts for future exploration missions.

According to the news of South China Morning Post, the Artificial Moon is located in Xuzhou city in Jiangsu province of China.

On the other hand, currently simulating low gravity on Earth requires using an airplane that goes into free fall and can then climb back into the air, and it takes minutes to do so.

EQUIPPED WITH MATERIALS LIKE THAT ON THE SURFACE OF THE MOON

However, Chinese scientists reported that in the new Moon simulator, which consists of a small room of 1.2 square meters, the setting of low or zero gravity can be used as often as desired and is ready in seconds. At the same time, it was reported that a surface with rocks and grains of sand as light as those found on the Moon's surface was created in the simulator.

The gravitational force on the Moon, on the other hand, is one-sixth that on Earth, and inside the artificial gravity chamber, the team uses a strong magnetic field to simulate the "levitation effects" of a low gravitational force.

EXPERIMENTS THAT CANNOT BE PERFORMED BEFORE

"Some experiments, such as impact testing, require only a few seconds, while other experiments, such as creep testing, may take several days. The Artificial Moon will enable work that could not be performed before," said Li Ruilin, chief scientist at the China University of Mining and Technology.

INSPIRED BY NOBEL PRIZE PHYSICIAN

The idea of using magnetic fields to levitate came from Russian physicist Andre Geim, who used magnets in 2000 to fly a frog, Ruilin said. Geim won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics with his assistant Konstantin Novoselov for his work on the two-dimensional production of graphene, a carbon atom.

GEIM: MAGNETIC LEAVING AND ANTI-GRAVITY ARE NOT THE SAME THING

Geim told the South China Morning Post that he was pleased to see his work lead to applications in space exploration, explaining that "magnetic levitation is not the same thing as antigravity." That said, there are situations where mimicking microgravity using magnetic fields can be invaluable, he said.

RUSSIA AND CHINA AIM TO ESTABLISH BASES ON THE MOON UNTIL 2030

China aims to send a taikonaut to the Moon by 2030 and establish a base on Earth's satellite by the end of this decade in a joint project with Russia.

The Artificial Moon is expected to play an important role in future missions to the Moon, by allowing scientists to prepare taikonauts to plan exercises and prepare for construction in low gravity.

EQUIPMENT CAN BE TESTED BEFORE GOING TO THE MOON

This way, experts will be able to test equipment before going to the Moon, avoiding miscalculations on the lunar surface that could spoil a real, live project.

CHINA'S ARTIFICIAL SUN BROKEN A RECORD

On the other hand, at the beginning of this month, the nuclear fusion reactor in Hefei, China, known as the 'artificial Sun', broke a new world record after operating at 70 million degrees for more than 17 minutes. Experts said the situation is an important turning point in the world's quest for a clean future. nonstop news
