PREVIOUSLY:
Serge arrived at Cape Howl, and was shocked to see a gravestone that indeed had his name on it, stating that he had died 10 years ago. While still trying to understand what he had just seen, a dragoon knight named Karsh, along with his subordinates Solt and Peppor, were ordered to meet Serge here in Cape Howl, calling him the "Ghost Boy", and to apprehend him even if by force. Cornered with no where to go, a lively girl named Kid appeared from nowhere and helped him fend off the dragoons.

Kid tried to convince Serge to travel together, as the knights might cause him trouble again in the near future, but he declined, so the two went their separate ways, and agreed to meet at the town called Termina. Back home, Leena confronted Serge, and decided to help him on his journey, stating that she always had a feeling of familiarity with him, even though they had just met, and since she had some errands to run in Termina anyway, she joined the party.

Upon reaching Termina, they meet up with Kid, who plans to sneak in to Viper Manor to loot some treasures, and also to find out why the dragoons have taken an interest on Serge. The group then recruited a magician named Guile, who also had some business in the manor, and to serve as a guide. The party then rented a boat and traversed the waters to the bluffs at the back of the manor. They were able to fend off the guards and successfully climb to the top, the gang then waited for night to fall before sneaking in.
