CiB Game Boy Theater - Hyper Lode Runner and James Bond 007 (Episode 49)
The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.
Hyper Lode Runner - it's Lode Runner. I have to be honest, I get it, but I don't know how to play this game. ..... Next?
Okay, wanted to focus most of my write-up on James Bond 007. This may be the game that surprised me the most out of any game so far on our channel. What kind of a game do you expect from James Bond 007 on the Game Boy? A side-scrolling walk-and-shoot kinda game? Maybe a Spy Hunter kinda driving game?
How about: It's Link's Awakening, but James Bond. Because that is what this is. I am floored. It's a very simple version of Link's Awakening, for sure, but the amount of items and NPCs I interacted with in the first 10 minutes was incredible. On the negative side, it's absolutely BS that most of the items we found were INVISIBLE. Why do you gotta DO that? 'Walk behind the bed and randomly press A until you find the item you need' now REALLY? Still, I'm floored by this. I'd like to one day actually go through this game (following a FAQ the whole time, of course). For once, I'm going to recommend a game I played on Game Boy Theater. Wow.
