Goonies was released as a Japanese region exclusive, on the Famicom on February 21, 1986. It was developed and published by Konami.

Technically, Goonies was available on Nintendo's Play-10 arcade machines in America, but never as a home release.

I did a tiny bit of research, and still don't quite understand why America never got a port of a game based off of an American movie -- if anyone has any specific info, let me know, because this game is actually pretty good!

It definitely looks and feels like an early NES game, but that's not a bad thing. The controls are tight, it's generally obvious what you're supposed to do (at least until the 3rd level!), and the life bar is very forgiving. It's a shame that we never officially got this one in America, only its sequel, Goonies II.

That being said, if you're a fan of older NES games, we definitely recommend this one. Thanks for watching!
