Even though this game is only about 4 hours long, I can confidently say: we are FINALLY at the end of this game.

Overall, FireWatch is a game that was tailor-made for me. I prioritize story and characters above all else in video games, which is why I can play (and mostly enjoy) games like Last of Us, or other 'Walking Simulators' that have very little gameplay. That being said, I was extremely disappointed in FireWatch.

FireWatch is sitting at a 81/100 on MetaCritic -- not an absolute classic by that score, but something that should be enjoyable. Even the user score of 7.2 is way higher than I would give to it.

I think the setting, environment, and the 'hook' of the game is amazing. What a phenomenal idea. I would love to see Henry struggle with his inner demons while he slowly loses his grip on sanity while being left alone for 80 days, with only Delilah over radio to keep him company. The game -starts- that way, but begins to devolve into a who-done-it that just leaves you saying 'Oh... that's it, huh?'

Although I like the idea of hiking through the wilderness in a game like this, the fact that you had to constantly go from Point A to B, then back to home base, over and over was monotonous and made me wish there was even -less- gameplay. Heck, I'd be fine if this was more of a choose-your-own-adventure kind of game like they heavily alluded to in the intro.

Overall, I thought I was in for a really gripping indie game that would have me wanting to explore the world of FireWatch, but what I got was a really good idea that was marred with groan-worthy dialog, choices that didn't matter (as far as I can tell, at least), and a twist that makes you wonder why you even put the 4 hours in. This is a definite 4/10 for me.

Thank you for watching, and we'll see you back again for more indie game action in the future!
