CiB Let's Try - Grind Stormer (Sega Genesis)
Grind Stormer was a 1993 arcade game that was eventually ported to the Sega Genesis in 1994 -- for what it's worth, there is a Steam version that was released in 2024!
Grind Stormer was developed by Toaplan, who also developed the internet-infamous Zero Wing (all your base are belong to us). This was one of the very last games they released, as they went defunct in 1994. Tengen published Grind Stormer for the Sega Genesis.
Much like many vertical shooters, this is a pretty darn tough game -- especially the Japanese version. I can't recall ever seeing a cartridge that includes both the American and Japanese release in one, so this is a treat!
You can definitely tell why Tengen chose the Genesis to publish this game -- I can't imagine it functioning well on the SNES. I'm also generally impressed by how well the game plays, and the Gradius-like power-up system. I wouldn't call this a top 5 shoot 'em up on the Sega Genesis, but it's definitely a solid release. Thanks for watching!
