The Komnenoi ruled the Byzantine Empire for several generations, having their share of good emperors (Alexios I) and bad (Andronikos I) before being deposed by the Angeloi. They survived in the northern reaches of Anatolia, establishing the Kingdom of Trebizond in 1204. While they always claimed the throne of Constantinople, they never reclaimed the empire, eventually succumbing to the Ottoman Turks in 1475. I intend to succeed where they failed; I will reclaim the Purple, and begin a second Komnenian Restoration!
