This is a train ride on a Class 180 Railcar that I filmed on the 10th of August 2016 from Grantham to Retford as I was heading to Doncaster and I wanted a ride on this cool looking train as it does have a very futuristic look on the outside at the front ends. These trains were originally new to First Great Western in 2000 although in 2008. A number of them were displaced to other Train Operators and First Hull Trains inherited some that displaced the Class 222 "Pioneer" trains to East Midlands Trains in that year due to increased passenger use and more capacity was required. These trains are normally quite busy but this day, it was much quieter and this is my first ever experience on Hull Trains and I can say that the staff are polite and friendly and I would certainly use their trains again in the future without hesitation.

The Class 180 "Adelante" is one of the fastest DMU Railcars in service as these units can do 125mph and have the "direct-drive" system like many of the other DMU's like the Class 170, Class 185 etc rather than traction motors like the Class 220/221/222 that are "DEMU" trains. Each car is powered by the Cummins QSK19 Turbo-charged diesel engine and is coupled to a Voith Hydraulic T312BRE transmission with Voith final drive gears. The braking system on these trains is the Air twin-piped at lower speeds and Hydrodynamic braking system at higher speeds. The Railcars were fitted with a retarder brake, but these are not used due to reliability issues. As a side note. I added a photo of the Class 180 into the video as it passed through a tunnel as I didn't want to get the reflection of the other traveller as I respect other peoples privacy :). So that's my way of getting around the tunnels whilst preserving the train sounds.
