Clicker Heroes Gameplay (2014, Playsaurus)
I played the Steam version, but there is another version online:

Both versions are free.
I used an open source program "Fast Mouse Clicker" to make a "rapid fire" key that I used instead of wearing down my mouse.

Clicker Heroes is an idle game developed by indie developer Playsaurus and was released onto the official website in July 2014. Clicker Heroes is a free-to-play video game with micro-transactions, though it does not enforce them and they have been described as a way to contribute to the developer. The micro-transactions and the currency they give are not required to continue with the game. The game has spawned a large number of other mobile game clones, including Clicker Wars and Hero Clickers.
In Clicker Heroes, the player must click on the enemy on the right of the screen to damage it and eventually kill it. Once killed, it will drop gold (which can change depending on the level the player is at and if the enemy is a boss) which can be used to upgrade and purchase characters. The game is similar to Cookie Clicker in the sense that, once the characters are unlocked they will do the player's job for them and increase the total damage per second the player does. The game runs without the player needing to do anything.
The player can 'ascend' and start the game again if they so desire. This action will give the player a currency called "hero souls" if done via one of the unlockable characters. For every 2000 levels (total) the player will receive 1 hero soul. The characters have special abilities that are unlocked at certain levels.
In August 2014, it was released onto Kongregate, and in September 2014 it was released onto Armor Games. It was later released onto the online distribution platform, Steam in May 2015 for OS X, Microsoft Windows. It is in development for iOS and Android.
