Child of Light Title Theme Animation (2014, Ubisoft Montreal)
Title of this Piece:
Aurora's Theme as composed by Coeur de Pirate (Béatrice Martin).
Child of Light is a platforming role-playing video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. The game puts players in the shoes of Aurora, a child stolen from her home, who, in her quest to return, must bring back the sun, the moon and the stars held captive by the mysterious Queen of the Night.
It was released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in April 2014, and was released on PlayStation Vita in July 2014. It is powered by UbiArt Framework, an in-house engine by Ubisoft previously used for Rayman Origins and its sequel, Rayman Legends.
Gameplay is described as having attributes of a side-scroller with RPG elements such as leveling-up to increase stats over time. Battles with enemies use a system similar to the Active Time Battle system found in games like the Final Fantasy series and Grandia. The player can control up to two characters during battle while the other characters not used level up the same way. A max of three enemies can appear during battle, including boss battles. Initiating battle uses the Surprise Strike, when the player initiate battle to the enemies and Ambushed, when the enemies initiate battle to the player. The game uses the mechanic of the can't-be-killed character Igniculus during battle, such as blinding the enemies to stall their attacks or collecting health/mana/Igniculus's light ability orbs from the wishes flowers.
Character dialogues amongst characters and to NPCs are often spoken in rhyming schemes. The last words of each dialogues rhymes.
Initially revealed at GDC Europe 2013 by Patrick Plourde, Child of Light is said to be inspired by Studio Ghibli and Yoshitaka Amano in its art style, and in presentation similar to games like Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy VIII and Limbo.
Most of the core creative team is formed of people who worked on Far Cry 3.
The original soundtrack has 18 tracks and was composed by Béatrice Martin, better known as Coeur de Pirate, a very talented young canadian singer and songwriter.
