The Arctic Archipelago of Svalbard is seeing a record melt season tied to human-caused global warming — scientists. For instance, the Aldegonda glacier on Svalbard has retreated from the seashore by more than 2 km since the beginning of the 20th century. Hence, If the nature of the climate does not change and the melting of ice continues at the same rate as now, then in about 40-50 years most of the glacier will disappear. Because of the warming, Svalbard offers climate researchers a preliminary look at what’s coming for the rest of the arctic.
