CLIMATE TECH PART II. CAN NEXT-GEN CONSTRUCTION SAVE THE PLANET?
Plenary | 2:00PM - 2:15PM | February 22nd, 2024
The real estate and construction industries are vital to the global efforts to mitigate climate change. According to McKinsey, the real estate industry drives approximately 39% of total global emissions. Concrete is responsible for 8% of global carbon emissions, according to Nature, and as the World Wildlife Fund reports, is also responsible for using almost 10% of the global industrial water supply. But new, more sustainable construction materials are coming online fast — and helping mitigate the harmful impacts of large-scale urban development. What technologies hold the most promise and how can innovative partnerships and financial models incentivize and scale climate-friendly built environments?
