Cloned HDD to new SSD after windows 10 install on 2011 HP laptop.
Works so much better than before and I'm liking windows 10, windows 7 update snags had the laptop hdd bogged down with gigs of hung up updates. Here's breakdown of what I spent upgrading laptop.
PNY 240 gigabyte solid state drive $26.99 (best buy)
4 gigs of DDR3 ram to add to 4 gigs already installed $9.99 (Ebay)
USB 3.0 Data transfer cable ($8.45 Ebay)
Minitool Shadow Maker HDD cloning software (Free download online)
Windows 10 free upgrade was still available even though it was suppose to end 2016. I found a CNET article from Dec 17 with the link after searching for information on the windows 7 mid Jan support no longer offered by microsoft and they confirmed it working and now so can I or at least as of a couple of weeks ago from today 1-1-2020.
As stated in video, the minitool kept giving errors upon each restart when it was suppose to migrate so I tried their new software shadowmaker and it cloned my old drive in a matter of a few hours and everything exactly like the original. I boxed my original drive up along with the transfer cable to clone again if and when this SSD fails. This particular PNY solid state 240 gig drive had 4.5 out of 5 star ratings online out of 900+ reviews. I highly recommend this upgrade to a SSD as long as you clone the original drive and keep it in a safe place in case SSD fails.
