CM:BN - The Road to Montebourg -1- GETOFFTHEBEACH!!!!
Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, lands on Utah Beach in the wrong place.
After Action Report:
The first mission in The Road to Montebourg campaign is an exercise in making a frontal assault. As you can see from the video, a frontal assault is one of the most intense operations you can conduct, as well as the most wasteful.
It took me 16 minutes to break through the German positions, and I used up about 70% of my ammunition to do it. I was able to keep the number of my men killed and wounded to single digits, which is the reason I used up most of my ammo, as well as the reason I pushed forward as fast as I did.
The Germans were unable to target their off map artillery, and their on map mortar teams were only able to fire exactly 3 rounds, killing one man, and wounding another.
I was very careful about keeping my men in defilade positions. When kneeling or standing they were able to fire, and when they went prone in the face of German fire they were behind solid cover.
I was also very careful to check the line of sight of each of my teams at every position I moved them to. About 80% of my men were able to fire at any identified German position at all times, and they fired continuously for the entire duration of the assault.
I was so particular about moving my teams carefully, that it took me 5 hours to play a scenario that lasted for about 20 minutes in game time. I think the results speak for themselves.
After 16 minutes, the handful of Germans remaining were running for their lives, and my men were deafened by gunfire and explosions, but they were still alive.
I took a single casualty during the mopping up phase, one man from 3rd Platoon was wounded by a German rifleman hiding in some dense brush.
The German did not survive.
I hereby recommend Lt. Bright to receive the Bronze Star for Valor, risking his own life to assault an enemy-occupied position, destroying it, and opening up the position for following forces.
The scenario ended with a total German surrender, there were about 7 Germans left on the map.
