About The Game
Code Vein
A dark action-RPG from the Japanese studio Shift, known from the God Eater franchise. The story of Code Vein takes place in the near future, when vampires with supernatural powers live on the ruins of our civilization.
Code Vein is an action-RPG title published for PC, PS4 and XONE by Bandai Namco company. It has been developed by Japanese team from Shfit studio, which previously developed the God Eater series.
Plot
Code Vein is set in a post-apocalyptic vision of near future, after mysterious thorns pierced through Earth’s crust. The human civilization is in total ruin, and the only survivors are the so-called Revenants – vampires with superpowers who live in a community known as Vein. Its members abandoned their humanity and most of their memories to survive in a new, harsh reality. However, they are far from accepting their fate and try to unfold the secrets of the fallen world. They must also suck blood regularly, or they will transform into blood-lusting monsters.
Game mechanics
The gameplay of Code Vein for PC, PS4 and XONE takes after the tradition of the Dark Souls series. Players traverse locations that aren’t clearly separated and fight challenging enemies, including powerful bosses. There is also the blood-sucking mechanic that plays a major part in the game, and is implemented by using Blood Veil, which also acts as an armor. If the player succeeds at getting blood, they can use their Gifts – special abilities with various effects, ranging from strengthening our character, through weakening enemies, up to direct attacks on them. Blood Veil appears in many shapes and forms, as do characters’ skills and weapons, letting us use various strategies.
One of the important elements of Code Vein is a system that lets us play with an AI-controlled companion. We select the companion from non-playable heroes, who become more numerous as we progress through the game. This allows us to complete tasks that would be too much of a challenge for a single adventurer. However, our friend isn’t just there to help us in combat – he can act by himself and his actions might result in situations which will require player’s support.
