ColecoVision - TV Static Prank Cartridge - ASM Coding Sample
A quick video about how to have fun with the ColecoVision by simulating typical TV static noise. It's a "make it yourself" video so I'm not gonna give you any files for this.

To complete the prank, you need a regular ColecoVision game cartridge to modify by gently making holes to access the screws, to be able to open the cartridge and access to the circuit board inside. If it's a regular 16KB circuit board (made of two 8KB ROM chips), simply unsolder the bottom ROM chip and replace it by your own one made with this little sample program. Put the modified circuit board back inside the cartridge and make the cartridge looks unmodified. You can bring it to a vintage video game meeting or convention and ask if they can check if this cartridge you've just bought at another table is working.
Note#1 : Remember that a typical not working cartridge is rather a mess on screen, or a "TURN GAME OFF" message. But with this program, you can make the ColecoVision looks like it doesn't work at all. ;-)
Note#2 : Some emulators may think the rom file is an error and not even load it or run it... and may also not emulate the white noise sound at all. Anyway, this program isn't mean to be played with an emulator, it's to be used as a prank cartridge for real. ;-)
