Colin McRae Rally by Codemasters, 2014.

Codemasters did a bad thing in 2013... they created a mobile version of Colin McRae Rally 2.0 combined with bits from Colin McRae Rally 3 and sold it under the original "Colin McRae Rally" name. Cue confusion and disappointment when people discovered it only has 3 locations (Australia, Greece and Corsica) and 4 cars. Plus an exceptionally low-quality cockpit view.

There was even some anger when, in 2014, this mobile game was ported to Steam, with a description (later changed) that made it sound like it was somehow an old game reborn.

So, what is it? Well it's... not great. Apart from being severely limited in the cars and locations department, the sound is pretty bad, graphics feel like a mobile game and the handling is not good. There's a deadzone that makes control (especially on a wheel, but even on a joypad analogue stick) feel very twitchy and on/off, with occasional glitches where it pulls hard in one direction or the other. I'm playing here on Xbox 360 joypad using the D-pad, as the analogue stick was too glitchy (and steering wheel too big a deadzone). You can't even seem to easily remap accelerate/brake on keyboard from the up/down cursor keys, which leads to hand strain!

Overall, best avoided. Go dig out Colin McRae Rally 2.0 instead!
