Collection of Mana will be available on Nintendo Switch later today, according to the E3 2019 Nintendo Direct. The three-game collection from Square Enix will include the beloved role-playing game Secret of Mana, along with its predecessor, Final Fantasy Adventure, and its sequel, Seiken Densetsu 3.
Collection of Mana will mark the first release of Seiken Densetsu 3 in the United States. It will be known as Trials of Mana in the collection.
Following the release of this collection in Japan last year, critic Jeremy Parish wrote about the challenge of recapturing the magic of the original Secret of Mana. “The original Secret of Mana has a rowdy, chaotic element to it,” writes Parish, “but the game works — even now, decades later — because the superficial sketchiness of the tech is underpinned by thoughtful interlocking systems and clever interface innovations.”
The Nintendo Direct also announced a full 3D remake of Trials of Mana. It will be released in early 2020.
