According to a report from THR, Donald Glover is in talks to join the Jon Watts-directed Spider-Man: Homecoming in a mysterious role that has yet to be revealed. Back in 2011, the ‘Community’ star embraced a social media campaign started by his fans called Donald4Spiderman with the hopes of him landing the title role in the Amazing Spider-Man reboot. And although we know how that ended, the fans now have a renewed interest because of the new casting report, with many wondering if Sony and Marvel are in fact, setting the stage for Glover to become Miles Morales.
In a report from Deadline, Paramount Pictures has found a pair of directors for its planned Beverly Hills Cop 4. The film had previously been set to debut in March of this year before it was pulled from the studio’s release slate a little over a year ago. Brett Ratner had been attached to direct but has since dropped out. Now, Eddie Murphy and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have set TIFF 2015 award-winning directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to helm the long overdue sequel.

The first trailer for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back has been released via Paramount Pictures. The follow-up finds Tom Cruise‘character returning to his roots, as he discovers that the women chosen to take over his role as head of the MP, played by Cobie Smulders, has been arrested for espionage. Writer/director Christopher McQuarrie did not reprise his duties for this sequel as he was too busy with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation so Cruise enlisted his The Last Samurai director Edward Zwick.
Variety is reporting that Finest Hours director Craig Gillespie is on board to direct I, Tonya, the biopic about Tonya Harding with Margot Robbie attached to play the controversial figure skater. Harding rose in celebrity as one of the world’s top figure skaters after she became the first woman to complete the triple axel move in major competitions. Her stay at the top would not last long. Harding’s husband, Jeff Gillooly, and a group of thugs attacked Kerrigan attempting to break her leg.
THR reports that STX Entertainment is developing Den of Thieves, a crime thriller set to star Gerard Butler, which will re-unite him with his London Has Fallen co-writer Christian Gudegast, who will now direct from the original screenplay he co-wrote with Paul Sheuring.
Variety is reporting that Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom director Justin Chadwick is in negotiations to helm Anthony Mackie’s untitled Johnnie Cochran biopic. The film will be centered on the 1981 wrongful death case of college football star Ron Settles. Signal Hill police ruled that Settles had hung himself in a city jail cell in despair over his arrest for speeding, but Cochran suspected foul play and persuaded the Settles family to request that the body be exhumed for an autopsy, which showed Settles had been choked to death.
