Color Connect Review | Mindful VR Puzzle Solving In Space!
The extensive library of VR content is growing with each passing day and is full of awesome experiences where you can fight off hordes of zombies, play board games with friends, explore impossible spaces and compete for high scores while jamming out to your favorite song.
But sometimes having your world turned up to a constant 11 can get tiring and you just want some time to chill out without having to worry about what you are going to find around the next corner.
And that's where Color Connect comes in.
You are going to be hard pressed to find a game that's more descriptive with it's title than this one and this simplicity extends directly to the game play as well.
In color connect you have one goal and one goal only, and that's to connect each colored orb with it's counterpart by dragging them through a structure of interconnect lines without crossing the lines of other colors.
And while the early puzzles illustrate this simple concept well, as you progress further through the game the addition of more and more colors make this an increasingly complex challenge.
Luckily though the game is quite forgiving and you can easily undo the moves you have made by dragging the orbs back through the lines they came from.
Upon completion of a puzzle the game awards you a score ranging from 1 to 3 stars depending on how many moves it took you to complete it and offers you a chance of retrying it before moving on. So if you initially struggled with a puzzle and ended up with a bad score, you can use your newfound insights in order to increase it.
And there is something profoundly relaxing about this experience that easily makes you forget about the time. In fact the first time I played it roughly an hour passed before I even knew it, which if you had me play a regular puzzle game, is not an amount of time I could easily stay focused before moving on to something else.
And this is probably really just a testament to how well Color Connect understands its core mechanic.
While there is not much more to the gameplay than the mechanics I described I do have to point out just how well the ethereal feeling of space, relaxing music and simple aesthetics come together in one cohesive package.
Color Connect brings you roughly 50 puzzles of increasing difficulty to complete and is available now on SideQuest and SteamVR for $9.99
