It's been almost 4 months since I did a 1 Credit Challenge video, so I decided to bring it back. In this video, I'm doing a game that I remember playing it on the Commodore 64 when I was younger. That game is: Combat School for the Arcade. This game was developed and published by Konami, it was released in the Arcade in 1987. Combat School was also ported to home computers, like: Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. This game was also known as: Boot Camp in North America. Combat School is a type of Track and Field game where the player takes control of a military recruit who is undergoing basic training at a United States Marine Corps Recruit Training camp, also known as a boot camp. The control panel consists of a trackball and two buttons with different functions depending on the event, but I'm using the Joystick version on MAME, because it's easier than the trackball version. The game can be played against a CPU-controlled opponent or a second player. Player 1 takes control of Nick, a brown-haired recruit in an orange shirt, while Player 2 is Joe, a blond-haired recruit in a blue shirt. The game is composed of seven training events whom the player must complete. Upon a near-success failure to complete an event (failing too severely results in game over), the player must do a set number of chin ups as punishment (this chance is given only once) in order to continue into the succeeding events, or it's game over. The events are as followed: Obstacle Course, Firing Range I, Iron Man Race, Firing Range II, Arm Wrestling, Firing Range III and finally Fighting against the Instructor. After all seven events are cleared, the player graduates from basic training only to be sent on a mission (the 8th and final stage) to rescue the U.S. President from armed terrorists. The final stage consists of a single side-scrolling level where the player must fight off terrorists using all the skills acquired during the course of training. This stage can only be played by one player. Without a continue feature, without spare stocks of lives, and the player dies with one hit (minus the part that pits the player in a hand-to-hand combat against the terrorist leader) from anything, the final stage is extremely difficult to clear. About this run in Combat School, I failed the Firing Range III event, because this event is tricky if you shoot a penalty and I almost completed this event. I got game over in the event: Fighting against the Instructor, because this event is more like the original Street Fighter by Capcom. Overall, Combat School is a challenging game and if you want to play this game? Then give this game a try on MAME (an Arcade Emulator). I hope you enjoy this 1 Credit Challenge video of Combat School for the Arcade and thanks for watching!
