This is Comfy Sweaters, an original theme I composed for percussion ensemble. This is part of my album "Superstars on the Horizon," which includes 10 original character themes inspired by Animal Crossing villagers.

Welcome to the first song from my upcoming original album! I really enjoyed composing themes based around seasons/locations a couple years ago and wanted to try composing some character themes, but I didn't have any original characters so I didn't know where to start... until I got a little help from my friends. I was playing ACNH when both Ruby and Punchy told me I should start working on an album (okay Punchy technically said concert, but it was pretty close, and Ruby did specifically say album), which is when I had the perfect idea - I'll compose themes for Animal Crossing villagers! Obviously I don't own the characters so I can't officially name these themes after them, but I can at least say they're "inspired by" them. :D I've composed themes for 10 villagers and am so excited to finally start sharing them with you! This project has been in the works since April 2021, so I've been working on it for a LONG time!

I'll be releasing a new song from this album every other week on YouTube until the album is finished - except for next week because I'm just that excited to share it with you haha (and because scheduling for February 14th/Pokémon Day). I haven't committed to a release date yet, but I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I do. All songs have been composed for percussion ensemble, so I'll be publishing sheet music for all 10 songs after the album releases as well!

Alright enough about the album, let's actually talk about the villager this theme is inspired by. First up we have Erik's theme! Since he's a deer and lives in a house with snowy wallpaper, I wanted to give his theme wintry vibes (no pun intended). He wears the comfy sweater as his default clothing in most games (except for ACNH where it was replaced by the yodel sweater), so I've named this song after his comfy sweaters.

Musically, this theme has a lot going on. Three marimba parts and sleigh bells set up the tempo and chord structure while two xylophone parts have steady eighth notes that add some color. The melody/harmony in the piano, glockenspiel, and later toy piano/vibraphone parts don't come in until beat two, which keeps you on your toes. Overall I think this piece flows around the tonal center without becoming stale. The chords in the B section provide a nice change of pace, accompanied by the triangle and suspended cymbal to support that change.

Before anybody asks, no Raymond is not one of the villagers. I will give you hints for the rest of the villagers though: peppy rabbit, lazy cat, peppy duck, smug squirrel, normal dog, snooty bear, sisterly sheep, cranky cat, and jock cat.
