Command & Conquer: Renegade — 22 Years' Special Playthrough | “Commando” Difficulty
Command & Conquer Renegade was released on February 26, 2002.
My first contact with this game was 20 years ago, in my grandpa's house. My uncle was playing it and I felt in love with the game. I've bought it right after and never stopped playing it a single year since then. It's without a doubt that I can say that Renegade is the game I most played in my life, which I can guess I played over 30,000 hours in total (not kidding).
Started playing online circa 2009, but then again, I didn't complete the Campaign in years. Many of the online players have done it… So, I decided it was my turn to do so. Playing it on Commando difficulty, without loading screens or save game reloads (which was definitely the hardest achievement).
I've forgotten many details about the campaign, and after revisiting this game, I see how much I forgot and missed about it. It's really hard on the later missions, but the whole Single Player mode is undoubtedly worth a shot in my opinion.
This game is turning 22 years old. I played it during many moments of my life, just as many of you. I've gone through school, college, university, got a job, dated many times, turned 30 recently… And I'm still playing it. I will do until I die.
But what Renegade, or “Ren” (as we, old players, call it) has that is so special? Is it the great gameplay? The neat campaign? The nice maps, vehicles, weapons or remarkable characters? Maybe the battle itself? We don't know exactly. For many of us is a different thing. Perhaps the game got us through hard times, and/or through great times. But the community was born in the same moment the game released. And it is strong until today — many times throughout the years we got servers filled up every week, and that makes me happy and proud of them. There were many servers that, unfortunately, are now gone — Such as my all-time favorite, “Cloud-Zone”, or the absolute loved one of many others, like “Jelly”. But we also got plenty of servers right now, like MPF and RenCorner. And keeping such an old game up and running for many years is not easy (specially when the official servers were gone long ago), but everyone who does it, is an absolute hero.
Thank you, Renegade, for bringing such cozy and heartwarming moments for me. By this point, you became a part of me, and I'll certainly carry on the memories to my grave.
And thank you, Westwood Studios, for creating this, what I personally consider a masterpiece. And for the next years: “Keep'em coming!”
