My first ever time being commissioned to write a song! It took me so long to finish that I barely even remember how it started, though...
Final boss themes aren't what I write a lot of, but it feels like they've been dissected so much by the Touhou-style composing community that writing them is inevitably formulaic no matter what approach you take. Unless it's really more a matter of me being a lot more experienced these days?
At any rate, I tried to give it underwater vibes, as well as make it sound pretty melancholy with a hint of whimsy and just enough power behind it so it feels fitting for a final boss. The flute in particular is my favorite with how much character it adds.
Coming up with a song name was an ordeal unto itself, too.
