Originally released for the arcades in 1986 and ported to the Master System later that same year (or, again, a year later for us Europeans), Fantasy Zone is the game that holds the distinction of... making me buy a Rapid Fire Unit -- a device you plug into the controller port and then plug the controller into, with switches to toggle rapid fire on and off for each button individually. It's actually quite the neat peripheral.
That said, with rapid fire, the game goes from nightmarishly difficult to a total cakewalk, so I might try beating it without someday.
