Dizzy Down the Rapids, developed and published by CodeMasters in 1992.

"Dip into Torrent River in the craziest barrel race ever! Amazing action as you dodge Trolls, leap waterfalls and ride the rapids. Inspiringly adventurous splashing fun."

What was a short level in the 16bit Fantastic Dizzy game was also packaged up as a full game in itself. Another cash grab I guess using the Dizzy name. The game has 7 levels riding the rapids in an effort to get to the bottom of the level before running out of time.

I didn't play well in this Longplay and should have restarted it, but it is complete and is what it is. The gameplay is different to the Spectrum version. There you collect apples to refill your ammo and there is no time limit to fight against. He apples give you a moment of invulnerability and there is no way to refill your ammo without losing a life.

The game is extra cruel by hiding extra lives where you can not possibly get to as they scroll off the screen. In a couple of areas I land in a Glitch that pushes me through the level avoiding the enemies. I thought it was more fun to leave these in as it rebalances the power back in my favour. The last level timer is particularly annoying as its quite tight and you need to move through some spiked areas while working out which spikes will kill you and which will allow you to pass right through!

The C64 version of the game is well presented and colourful, but I prefer the gameplay of the Spectrum version particularly as you don't have to rush it.
