Nemesis, a conversion of Gradius for the Commodore 64 developed and published by Konami in 1987. The Gradius name is retained in the US region.

"The Planet Nemesis, a peaceful Earth-like world, is now under an all-out space attack from its old nemesis beings from the sub-space star cluster of Bacterion. You will need all your courage and concentration to win. Get ready to blast off!"

Not as good as Salamander on the C64, but not a bad shoot em up. It does feel faster and more difficult though with a full enemies coming in fast and often filling the screen with projectiles to dodge.

The game starts with Sound effects enabled by default, which you can then change to music with a keypress in game. Only one song plays throughout which is another let down and I switch back to sfx near the end of the video.

The ending message appears rather suddenly and takes you back to the player select screen. No highscore table for this game!
