COMPLETELY USELESS GLITCH - Skip the Cloak in Shadowgate (NES) - A Wild Glitch Appears! #shorts
699In Shadowgate for the NES, there's a glitch (or exploit) you can perform to skip the CLOAK. Normally, the cloak is a required item since you cannot pass through the room with all the flames without it. This trick lets you get through the on-fire room without the cloak! But... is it worth doing?
Typically, one would defeat the Shadow Wraith to obtain the CLOAK and then USE the CLOAK on SELF in order to equip it. Ironically, the character complains about how uncool the cloak is, even though it's the only item that will keep you cool around the raging fire. Anyway, once you adorn the cloak, you can pass through the room beyond the mirrors and proceed with the game, provided you have the SPHERE to extinguish the flame demon guy.
If you attempt to enter the room with the flames before you put on the cloak, the game automatically ejects you back into the room with the three mirrors. But! When the game ejects you back into this room, you can simply find a way to die - for example you can smash one of the "incorrect" mirrors to trigger one of Shadowgate's many deaths.
After dying in this way, you can choose the Continue option from the Game Over screen, and this will place you back in the room with all the fire (aka the Hall of Flame). Even if you don't have the cloak at all, the game will no longer force you back into the mirror room! Now you can proceed with the game without needing the CLOAK!
This glitch might seem useful at first, but since it is absolutely necessary to visit the rooms behind the Shadow Wraith to complete the game, you might as well get the cloak anyway. And since equipping the cloak is faster than dying and continuing, this glitch is completely useless in a speedrun. Isn't that neat?
