31I remember seeing the showcase for this level when it came out and immediately thinking that it was one of the coolest levels I had ever seen, however when it came out back in 2.1 I tried it out and found that it was much too difficult and laggy for me to even finish a practice run.
Cut to about a month ago, and I saw it pop up again in my feed and thought I would try it out again with the new 2.2 optimizations, and while I still thought it was way too hard for me to beat with my first practice run taking a solid 900 attempts, it was still *possible*.
Ended up doing a few more practice runs over the next day or so, and decided I would finally make a copy of the level and try my best to do some start position runs. I did 85-100 relatively quick, and then it really hit me that I could actually beat this if I really tried. This thought was immediately taken away from me when I started learning the wave however LOL.
66-83 is easily the absolute hardest learning and playing experience I have had in any level. Learning and doing the layout of the wave in about an hour gave me so much confidence that I thought nothing could stop me. Then I tried playing it on the actual level. Learning specifically the mini wave at 75 was the only time I came close to dropping this level, taking me probably around 4000 attempts just to do ONE TIME, but after I finally did do it, the consistency really started coming in. I did 66-100 pretty soon after finally doing the mini wave, and learning the rest of the level was an absolute breeze. This isn't to say the wave isn't fun or consistent btw, it's honestly my favourite part of the level and one of the most consistent parts by far, but holy shit is it ever hard at first.
Leaving for vacation after I finished learning the level really scared me, as not playing for a week would easily lead to me going back to being inconsistent at everything, and then derusting the wave part could've easily led to me dropping the level for good. This led to me avoiding the level for a few days when I got home out of fear that I would stop enjoying it, but finally coming back to it, I luckily derusted in like an hour and immediately started making good progress from 0.
I will say, this level did come with *some* frustrations near the end due to some choke points, mainly including 15%, the orbs at 29%, 36% randomly not working from 0, and constant deaths at the first 5% of the ship part. However, I still urge anyone with an ounce of skill at this game to just try this level out, because this is genuinely my new favourite extreme and the best level on the demon list.
