Console Racing Driving Games of 1993 - Top Gear 2
The sequel to 1992's Top Gear, released for the SNES in 1993 in the UK, US and Japan. Top Gear 2 was developed by Gremlin Graphics Software and published by Kotobuki System and Kemco America. Following it's 1993 SNES release it would be ported to the Sega Genesis in 1994, this release was exclusive to the US. Also released in 1994 was a port to the Amiga CD32, this release would be exclusive to Europe.
Top Gear 2 plays and looks quite similar to the Lotus series of game again these were developed by the same studio Gremlin Graphics Software. Top Gear 2 sees the player racing across 16 different countries each with a total of 4 races in each country, points being earned for finishing in the first six, classic points system of 10 for a win 6 for second 4 for third down to 1 for sixth place.
The series had a good run of 14 years culminating in the 2004 release Top Gear RPM Tuning on the PS2, Xbox and WIndows. The series was revived however in 2024 with a compilation release Top Gear Collection which released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
